Women's Council
The Women’s Council of Saints Peter & Paul Church is a part of the National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW), a nationwide federation of Catholic women and their parish organizations. The NCCW was founded in 1920 by 200 women at the call of U.S. bishops. The NCCW is composed of affiliated parish, subdivision diocesan, and state organizations. It is a national organization with a vast number of individual memberships - literally millions of women working together through national program commissions, reflecting current issues in the Church and society at large.
In Atlanta, the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women was formally established by Bishop Francis Hyland in 1957. On February 21, 1962, Atlanta was elevated to the status of an archdiocese, and the women’s organization became known as the Atlanta Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women (AACCW). The boundaries of this organization correspond with the boundaries of the Atlanta Archdiocese, which includes the 69 counties of north Georgia plus Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. By Archdiocesan decree, all Catholic women living in the Atlanta Archdiocese are automatically members of the AACCW.
The Women’s Council at Saints Peter & Paul seeks to inspire and demonstrate leadership in all matters relating to the affairs of the Parish. The Council supports the Pastor in promoting and fostering the spiritual and material well-being of our Parish community in the new millennium. Through our belief in the power of the Holy Spirit, we seek the mutual coordination with and among all ministries and organizations of the Parish.
Mission
The Saints Peter & Paul Women’s Council acts through its affiliated organizations to support, empower, and educate all Catholic women in spirituality, leadership and service. Women’s Council programs respond with Gospel values to the needs of the Church and society in the modern world.
