This weekend, we celebrate Independence Day. Independence from British rule was the original reason for the day, but I believe it has come to mean much more. it has come to mean independence from all oppression and control. I know that our country has its faults and failings; however, we also experience a wonderful freedom that billions wish they had in their lives.

We should never take these freedoms for granted and we should never forget those who have fought for and defended our freedoms over the past 234 years. One of the things that helps us to be thankful is the news that we watch every day. When we see many other people who live in fear everyday of their lives from their own governments...we come to understand that we are blessed to live in a land with freedom.

Thank you to all of you who have served and are presently serving our nation. May we remember all of those who have died in service to our nation. May we also give thanks to God as we BBQ, have fun and enjoy family.
